FAQs

WHAT IS GRIPD?

GRIPD is a clear, non-toxic alternative to wax for surfboard traction.

Sticky-backed and hexagon shaped, as this is the most efficient shape for tessellation, GRIPD has a rubbery texture and provides excellent levels of grip.

HOW MANY PACKS DO I NEED?

If you have a shortboard or hybrid and are using a tail pad then one pack of grips should be sufficient.

If you have a mid-length or longboard then, depending on its length and how much of the board you want to cover, then two packs+ will be required.

WHAT BOARDS CAN I USE IT ON?

We have applied GRIPD to a variety of boards and materials, PU, Epoxy even foam boards, but not all boards are created equal.

Foam boards that are not really smooth or closed-cell, will have problems with adhesion. They are harder to fully de-wax and clean so the grips won’t stick properly.

We have had the best feedback from people using GRIPD in conjunction with a tail pad.

Therefore GRIPD is recommended for ‘hard’ (and clean) surfboards only…..ideally with a tail pad.

IS IT ANY GOOD?

Performance-wise, it’s the same as wax but unlike wax, GRIPD won’t melt, gather sand, or break down and enter the ecosystem.

You won’t need to change it for different water temperatures or re-apply for each surf session.

It is clean, clear and free from phthalates, plasticisers & PVCs.

DO I NEED TO CLEAN MY BOARD?

YES, it is the most important part!

Make sure you remove all the wax from your board by scraping and then de-greasing it with wax remover or alcohol.

Ensure it is thoroughly clean and dry before applying the grips.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?

If you clean your board well enough initially then GRIPD should last at least a year of regular use.

In testing, the grips were still going strong after a year of use when one board gave up and snapped!

Always rinse your board off with fresh water after use to keep it looking fresh.

HOW DO YOU APPLY IT?

When your board is properly clean and dry, lay out the grips on your board to work out where you would like them.

Using the stringer for alignment - remove the backing and stick down the first hexagon.

The included spacer will help when sticking the remaining grips and you can cut them in half - just round the corners before applying them.

Take care to ensure the grips are all stuck down well, avoiding air bubbles and when you are done, leave them for 24hrs before use.
